What is the Something For Everyone campaign?
In January 2009, the board of The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Colorado committed $400,000 from restricted capital funds to kick off Something for Everyone, a three-year, $3.5 million Capital, Operating and Endowment Campaign.
Why a campaign?
The Center received an estate gift that provided enough financial backing to proceed with a sound financing structure that combines loans, cash reserve and fundraising.
A comprehensive campaign combines efforts to meet The Center’s ongoing operational needs such as legal advocacy, Rainbow Alley and other community outreach while ensuring sustainable facilities and funds for the future.
The Center anticipates owning its new home outright within five years.
Why Now?
With an increasing LGBT population in Colorado, The Center’s capacity to provide resources and programming is a growing need. New facilities provide much needed expansion for areas such as the Cyber Center, Rainbow Alley and general meeting space. It also expands space for staff, volunteers and users that are expected to grow exponentially over the next five to 10 years.
By purchasing a facility now when prices are depressed, it is estimated The Center will save more $500,000 in acquisition, construction and professional fees.
How long is the campaign?
The Center recently completed the quiet phase of a three-year campaign. The Center raised more than $1.5 million during this phase of the campaign. Such funds are necessary to ensure monies for the renovation, construction and additional guaranteed financing for the new building.
The campaign just launched publicly and is expected to be completed in December 2011.
When will the new Center open?
The new Center opened in July 2010.
What are some of the features of the new Center?
The 15,000-square-foot facility doubles the space of The Center's old facility at 1050 Broadway. It includes four floors – a garden level, main floor, second-floor offices and meeting rooms and a rooftop patio with a view of the Capitol and the mountains. It will be a green building aimed at reducing The Center’s carbon footprint with new windows, insulation and other features. It will include new or expanded space for Rainbow Alley, our Elders program, conference facilities, meetings and an improved Cyber Center.
