The 2008 Jokers, Jewels, and Justice will be held on February 21st, 2008 at the Renaissance Denver Hotel in Stapleton. The Center’s Legal Initiatives Project (CLIP) will benefit directly from the proceeds of JJJ. CLIP is the legal outreach program of The Center. Founded in 1992 to oppose the anti-gay Colorado constitutional Amendment 2, CLIP is the only legal project in Colorado dedicated solely to the equality and dignity of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people and those with HIV. CLIP accomplishes its mission through the CLIP Legal Hotline, civil rights litigation and mediation, media work, and public education.

The event will begin at 6:00 pm with a VIP Patron Reception featuring special guests Governor Bill Ritter, Senator Jennifer Veiga, Representative Alice Madden, and Barrister of the Year Patrick Steadman. Past honorees have included Mitch Morrisey, Denver’s District Attorney, Mari Newman, a partner of the Denver civil rights firm Killmer, Lane, & Newman, and other leaders in the fight for GLBT legal equality.

The general admission event will begin at 6:30 pm with an open bar and catered appetizers. The evening’s gaming activities will include blackjack, craps and roulette tables, all run by a professional casino company. A silent auction highlights the event. Past auction items have included plane tickets, vacation destinations, luxury accommodations, fine art, tickets to cultural and sporting events, and gift certificates.
