Queer Youth Summit in January
Save the date of Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 for the Colorado Queer Youth Summit. The Queer Youth Summit is a statewide collaborative to organize the first ever conference for GLBTIQ youth of Colorado.
This will be a day-long event held in Denver with workshops including safer sex, relationships, leadership development, arts, queer history, and much more! Please check http://coqueeryouthsummit.org for details.
Many Men, Many Voices
El Futuro announces its November 2008 Many Men, Many Voices Weekend Retreats where gay/bisexual Latinos can participate, teach, and learn from each other in a fun-filled atmosphere. Participants completing the weekend retreat will receive a $100 gift card. Registration is requested. Retreat weekends are: Saturday & Sunday, Nov. 8/9, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Nov. 22/23, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. El Futuro is at 881 Federal Blvd, Denver. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center Board of Directors discussed two of the statewide ballot questions facing Colorado voters in November, Amendment 46, the "Colorado Civil Rights Initiative" and Amendment 48, the "Personhood Initiative," and now announces its opposition to both Amendment 46 and Amendment 48 and encourages members of the GLBT community and allies to vote “no” on both initiatives.

November is Homeless Youth Month
Gov. Bill Ritter, Jr. and Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper have designated the month of November 2008 as Homeless and Runaway Youth Awareness Month in Colorado. In addition, the United States Congress, the National Runaway Switchboard and the National Network for Youth have proclaimed November as National Runaway Prevention Month.
A kickoff event is planned for Thursday, Nov. 6 from 3 –7 p.m. (Proclamation Ceremony at 5 p.m.) at Urban Peak Denver, 730 21st St., Denver, CO 80205. The event will include a proclamation ceremony, food, entertainment, and a resource fair for youth in the areas of housing, education, employment, medical, shelter, and emergency services.

Program staff growing at The Center
Christi Stafford joins The Center as Community Programs Manager continuing the work of the Healthy Living program. She has been program director at cityWILD, a local non-profit serving Denver youth, for the past five years. Christi's professional background includes 12 years working with both youth and families in wilderness and urban settings in direct service roles as well as program management. She has more than seven years experience with curriculum and program design as well as extensive work in strategic planning and program development.
