GLMA Releases Podcasts from 2006 Conference:
The Gay and Lesbian Medical Association recently released several podcasts documenting various topics relating to how cancer affects the GLBTQI communities. Several podcasts document first-hand experiences of patients who faced discrimination in healthcare due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. Click here to listen.
The Center’s Healthy Living staff work to accomplish four key goals:
1. Promote health and reduce chronic disease associated with substance abuse, tobacco use, diet and weight.
2. Increase access to GLBT sensitive healthcare to members of the GLBT community.
3. Increase the quality, availability and effectiveness of educational and community-based programs designed to improve health and quality of life.
4. Improve mental health and ensure access to appropriate, quality mental health services.
The Center offers a variety of health services, including referral to GLBT sensitive healthcare providers, free HIV testing in conjunction with Denver Health, and free mammograms for uninsured women.
In addition to these services, the Healthy Living Program offers the community resources for health education and disease prevention. Currently, campaigns for cardiovascular disease and cancer prevention as well as smoking cessation and prevention are under way.
